Coulomb correlation and bandgap renormalization at high carrier densities in quantum wires

چکیده
We have studied the luminescence of narrow quantum wires at photoexcitation densities of up to ∼ 3×10 cm. We show that, even at these densities, which are well above the expected Mott density of 8 × 10 cm, excitonic recombination dominates over other recombination channels in stark contrast with the behavior of quantum wells and bulk structures at equivalent densities. As we observe no shift in the peak energy with density, an upper limit to the band gap renormalization can be set. 71.35, 78.66, 78.47, 71.27 Typeset using REVTEX

Bandgap Narrowing in Quantum Wires
In this paper we consider two different geometry of quasi one-dimensional semiconductors and calculate their exchange-correlation induced bandgap renormalization (BGR) as a function of the electron-hole plasma density and quantum wire width. Based on different fabrication scheme, we define suitable external confinement potential and then leading-order GW dynamical screening approximation is use...
متن کاملModeling and Simulation of Strained Quantum Wells in Semiconductor Lasers
Amodel allowing for efficiently obtaining band structure information on semiconductor Quantum Well structures will be demonstrated which is based on matrix-valued kp-Schrödinger operators. Effects such as confinement, band mixing, spin-orbit interaction and strain can be treated consistently. The impact of prominent Coulomb effects can be calculated by including the Hartree interaction via the ...
متن کاملTime-Dependent Real-Space Renormalization Group Method
In this paper, using the tight-binding model, we extend the real-space renormalization group method to time-dependent Hamiltonians. We drive the time-dependent recursion relations for the renormalized tight-binding Hamiltonian by decimating selective sites of lattice iteratively. The formalism is then used for the calculation of the local density of electronic states for a one dimensional quant...
متن کاملCoulomb-correlation effects on the non-linear optical properties of realistic quantum wires
We review recent results on the linear and non-linear optical response of realistic quantum-wire structures. Our theoretical approach is based on a set of generalized semiconductor Bloch equations, and allows a full threedimensional multisubband description of Coulomb correlation for any shape of the confinement profile, thus permitting a direct comparison with experiments for available state-o...
متن کاملHot-carrier cooling and photoinduced refractive index changes in organic–inorganic lead halide perovskites
Metal-halide perovskites are at the frontier of optoelectronic research due to solution processability and excellent semiconductor properties. Here we use transient absorption spectroscopy to study hot-carrier distributions in CH3NH3PbI3 and quantify key semiconductor parameters. Above bandgap, non-resonant excitation creates quasi-thermalized carrier distributions within 100 fs. During carrier...
